Improving Homeland Security

After September 11, 2001, there was wide recognition that our first responders – police, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and others – need to be strengthened to counter these new threats to our security. All terrorist attacks start out as local events. Local responders need the equipment and training to effectively cope with these situations. Unfortunately, the Administration’s proposed budget makes significant cuts to several programs designed to provide the necessary equipment and tools to first responders. I will fight to ensure that first responders are given the resources to protect the Kansas City community and our homeland and that the recommendations of the bi-partisan 9-11 Commission become law.
